UTJA Tanabata (七夕)

Hey everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your summer! UTJA is hosting its first summer event this year! The theme is Tanabata (七夕)! At our event, visitors will be able to participate in activities such as a wishing tree (on a bamboo tree) and fortune telling. They also learn how to make Tanabata decorations by using origami papers. While exploring the story and significance of the Tanabata festival, they can enjoy delicious sweet Takoyaki as dessert. Come and celebrate Tanabata with UTJA!
Price for attendance:

There are two options.
1) $10 membership fee for 2017-2018 (this will have access to most of our events during 2017-2018)
2) Entry for only this event: $5

UTJA’s Board Game Cafe Night

Get ready to show off your board game skills with UTJA! UTJA is going off campus to Riddle Room Board Game Cafe where we’ll partake in playing Japanese-themed games! This event is open to anyone at the cost of buying a drink at the venue but if you bring your UTJA membership card, you’ll get in for free PLUS recieve some Japanese popcorn!!

Konnichiwa Japan!

Hey Everyone! The EAS Department will be hosting Konnichiwa; a Japanese Cultural Event on March 10th on the 14th Floor of Robarts! The full event will be from 1pm-5pm! UTJA will be teaching Karuta and having some other Japanese language games!

Valentine’s Special Event

UTJA is hosting a Valentine’s special event! Bring your special someone and enjoy a romantic date with our activities! Alternatively, come by yourself and design pocky to give to your friends!

1❤ Decorate Valentine’s day pocky for the special people in your life
– Make 友チョコ (friendship chocolate), 義理チョコ (colleague chocolate), and 本命チョコ (lover chocolate)!

4❤ 縁結び “Japanese Love Fortunate Teller”

**This event is FREE for utja members, but $5 for non-members**

This event will be held in St. Hilda’s ADAM’S ROOM

Japanese Winter Festival『冬祭り』

Want to know more about Japanese Culture? Japan Associations from around the GTA have collaborated to provide an event filled day with Japanese food, Japanese games, Japanese performances, and more!

Want some free takoyaki, sushi, dango? Come check this event out!! We will also have lots of free games where you can win Japanese prizes and more!


This event is in collaboration with University of Toronto, Western University, Queens University, McMasters University, and Sir Wilfrid Laurier University featuring University of Toronto clubs, UTFOLD, UofT Naginata, UofT Kendo, and UofT Karate.

Come check this event out! It will be worth it!

Hey Everyone! The East Asian Studies Department will be hosting Shimotsuki-sai this Friday, November 18th, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm in Purple’s Lounge located on the 14th Floor of Robarts Library! There will be student performances and presentations related to Japanese culture! Everyones welcome and I hear they will be serving 豚汁 (pork miso soup) so come and support your fellow members!
